He's been on the D.C hip-hop scene since he was in high-school. My first encounters with him kind of started in 2007 seeing each other at the same shows. Drew Plays keys on most of the DTMD stuff that i cant actually play and lends some of his classically trained( ha) critique to our projects. Anyways, Drew is a dope keyboard player and is only like 19 or 20 years old. He made playing contributions to DTMD's forth coming album "Makin Dollas", along with Soulful's "Mumbo Sauce and Drumbreaks". Finally Stik made the trip from Topeka to DC and i just so happened to be there. Odd and Stik were working on the EP, and i played Stik some beats and he picked one of my beats that later became, "From the Top" the title track of his EP.
Stik later recorded on the track and after i left, Oddisee added, horns, synths and bass to the beat.

Anyways, Stik Figa is one of my new favorite artists and im just glad i could contribute to the project. Oddisee and Stik made a great EP. Mcdonalds on every corner, a KFC built into Cheverly Terrace
apartemt complex ( a low income african/ african American apartment complex riddled with crime, there has been 3 murders there in 2 weeks) There is a popeyes/Mcdonalds in Dodge park, right outside of palmer Park and Kentland.
To top that off, right across the street is the "25 hour conveninece store/ liqours " Dubbed by the comminity "2-5" signifying the Landover area.. Really?? a liquor store is representing where your From??? tight!!

If you head south a bit more down 202 you will come across largo town center/ The Boulevard..Guess whats there?? Chick-Fillet, BOJANGLES!, Mcdonalds, taco bell... Any mom and pop Shop?? any local neighborhood deli?? nope. The community wont support it. Why?? Probably because corperate America has trained this area to only be accustomed to these establishments. Is it our fault?? Probably. The only way this area will get it self out of mediocrity and crime is by Demanding and establishing home-grown buisness'es and customers who care for and support them. Bringing in Revenue for its inhabitants and not Mcdonalds and bojangles. Do i think this will happen?? Nope. People that live in PG county seem complacent where they are. It's always dubbed "The Most affluent african-american county on the United states"...So WHat?? what are African-American's abroad (for the most part) doing?? obviously not much if PG is the "Gold Standard".
This is the exact reason it is not acceptable to stay stagnent.
Back to food. The only privately owned buisnesses are chinese carryouts (Gotta love that mambo sauce). I mean we got everything as far as carryouts, Lennys, bennys, Yums, Asian carryout, And "Landover Carryout" (Shown above) All of these have deeply fried chicken and overly sugar'ed sweet tea (further exploting black peoples chronic diseases such as diabetes). On top of that, all the profits are going to non-resisdent asian folk. Where do they live? Probably virginia and MOCO
Alot of the times i feel like im fucking crazy, like HOWCOME NO ONE SEEMS TO ADRESS THESE PROBLEMS???. So for now, ill continue eating out of those styrophone trays, gallon cups of sweet tea (With the mountains on the cup) in the plastic "Thankyou thankyou" bags. I just really hope something good to eat opens soon or atleast i get out of here before it gets too bad...

Playing records

I Finally got my DJ set-up kragginoff....so i figured id throw some of these random videos of me spinning some records found around the house...IM NO DJ, so please don't think "this guy sucks" lol, im still learning stuff to say the least. I've had a fairly decent summer id say, i didn't even end up doing half of what i set out to do but i still managed to have a goodtime anyways. Im only pumped up about one of those things.....

Heres a video i shot while down on St. Simons Island, everything down there was beautiful (except the overly tan conservative republicans who could smell outsiders from a mile away) i got a chance to hop on a bike and shoot from where we stayed.
If you have even the slightest bit of an attention span maybe you can watch the whole video, its only the length of a song..so yeahhhhh. I finally picked a major and im headed back to PGCC (womp WOMP) after a semester off hiatus. I Want to make beats all the time, but i undertand that education is pretty important too, so im going to once again try my hand at doing both at the same time. Dont get me wrong, music is all i want to do and the only thing i really get excited about, but it can't hurt to have a degree too. Anyways, all week ive been back and fourth between UMD and PGCC to git my transcripts right and blahdshfjdk.dnjk.gds...wuteve.I didnt make any beats this week which is wack.
Sooo, thought id share one of my favorite producers with the world. Some of you may know him from the "heralds of change" (Mike Slott and Hudson Mohawke) Others may know of him from his solo work as well.
Anyways, got the oppurtunity to link up with Mike Slott last summer (now a resident of NYC) with Oddisee and Abdullah. I think we spent like a week up there at his hosue which was dope...
Turns out he's a real good dude. The young man is no longer a teenager and has stepped into the realm of "20". Anyways, besides me making beats for random artists in the area, i actually have a group I've been working with since 7th grade. Me and toine have been writing rhymes/making beats since "02 and we havnt looked back. We've had many group names, "2 face mafia"(Gaaad, lol) when we just wrote rhymes in middle school and then "The mercenaries" when we were in highschool making beats.

I kept making beats and stopped writing rhymes whereas toine stopped making beats and picked the notepad back up. Since then We've linked up with "Emcee", one of toines friends from highschool to form "Mirror Image". Because we all went to different schools in college, it was kind of hard for us all to link up so Mirror Image kind of went on the back burner and me and Toine Formed the group DTMD (Dunc n Toine making dollars). I was supposed to go to my friends house and buy his entire record collection (huge collection) but i guess he was busy and what not. THEN my man Dj Juslissen selecta was supposed to drop off his extra DJ mixer so i can start my DJ'ing career LOL...(i gotta be able to tour somehow, promoters wont pay for producers to travel without a stage talent, and im not rappING! yet) but yea juslissen has been super busy so i guess that didnt work out tho the night is not gone. Im not complaining becuase hes doing ME a favor so it whatever. Anyways, i spent the whole day chopping breaks and trying to imitate late 70's-80's disco for the new Critically Acclaimed album. Im pretty hyped to even have the oppurtunity to work with those cats, ive been a fan since i was in highschool..anyways, back to the beats.

I'm off to Georgia tommarow, more pictures to come...

Mixerless turntables!...please come thru Jusslissen.
im an impatient bastard..

Football, my other Love.

This blogspot is pretty much going to be random and not exclusively for music, just thoughts, and things i do.
